This February we are celebrating Black History Month by honoring historical figures. Did you know John Lewis marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. against oppression, risking his life for justice? He later was elected as a congressman in Georgia from 1987 until his death in 2020.

He wrote a total of three books about his life, was a skilled speaker for the abolition of slavery, and was a supporter of women’s rights. Did you know that after abolitionists officially bought his freedom, Douglass’ family settled in the Rochester area before moving to Washington, D.C., in 1872?
