Parent Broadcast, Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Good afternoon Silver Creek School families. We have received another shipment of at-home rapid COVID test kits from the Chautauqua County Health Department. We will be handing out one free COVID test kit for each student on Thursday, January 27 from 2:30pm – 5:30pm, and Friday, January 28 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at the Band entrance. If your child tests positive after using the COVID kit, please have your child stay at home and contact your school nurse.
It is important for you to know that the use of the kits is not mandatory and completely at your discretion. Additionally, if you do not have transportation and desire a test kit, you can call your child’s office and/or send in a note in with your child and arrangements will be made to send it home with your child.
Please know, we appreciate your continued trust, partnership, and flexibility as we continue to navigate COVID together. We continue our school year knowing that, “We are all in this together, and together we will get through this”.

As you may know, it was reported yesterday that a decision made by a Supreme Court Judge in Nassau County "struck down" the NYS statewide mask mandate for schools. The decision was appealed by the NYS Department of Health this afternoon, to a higher New York State court, called the NYS Appellate court. The judge ruled late this afternoon that a “stay” of yesterday’s Nassau County decision is in place while it is reviewed further later this week. This means that the NYS Department of Health mask mandate remains in effect until further notice.
Please know, we are tracking this issue as it unfolds. The District is in touch with the Chautauqua County Department of Health and legal counsel so we can provide our school families with the most accurate, clear and current Information possible. I understand that this may be stressful and confusing to students and families! Please be assured that we continue to consider the current guidance and laws from the Chautauqua County Department of Health and CDC as we make informed decisions pertaining to how to best protect all of our students. Student safety and well-being always remain our number one priority.
Should anything change from the NYS Appellate court ruling late this afternoon, we will share pertinent updates with our community as soon as possible.
Have a good evening!

THEY UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT: These two students “obeyed” the color coordination (burgundy) in Albert VanDette's class at Silver Creek High. #wearesilvercreek #BKP #BlackKnightPride

SNOW GLOBES & WINTER WRITING
Educators at Silver Creek Elementary School asked third-graders to write a narrative about being trapped in a snow globe.
The students needed to write an imagined story about their adventure in the globe, making sure their writing had a clear beginning, middle and end.
When they were done, they made a snow globe with themselves trapped inside! Pictured are some of the students in Mrs. Schuster and Mrs. Estee’s classes.
Nice work, Black Knights! #BKP #wearesilvercreek

During STEAM lessons, our Black Knights in third through fifth grades at Silver Creek Elementary School show kindness through peer tutoring.
Mrs. Rich and Mrs. Westlund's Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math specials pair older scholars with younger students to help practice communication, technology and critical thinking skills.
But, mostly, they just have fun! #BKP #BlackKnightPride #wearesilvercreek #STEAM #STEM
