Last night at our Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized employee Mary Williams. Mary is Silver Creek's Native American Education Program Coordinator. There are many ways Mary supports the Native American students, as well as the broader school community. Mary is responsible for writing and implementing the Title VI grant. She is also the faciliator of our Title VI parent committee. Throughout her day, Mary works to support students academically as well as providing social emotional support. Last year, Mary was the architect of Silver Creek's Indigenous Honor Society, the first in our region. IHS recognizes Native American students for academic excellence and community service in culturally relevant ways. Additionally, Mary is an active member of our Tri-district regional group, a collaborative group made up of Silver Creek, Gowanda, and Lakeshore. As a part of the Senaca language grant, and in collaboration with the Tri Districts, Mary faciliated a series of cultural events for students in all three districts. These events highighted culturally important skills in cooking, daily life, and art. Thank you, for all you do, Mary! #BKP #SCCARES
