Yesterday, SC staff played a game called “Peppermint in Your Pocket”. 5 staff members were given a peppermint, and all day if you passed someone in the hall, you asked “Do you have a peppermint in your pocket?” If they had the peppermint, they had to give it up! Whoever had one of the peppermints at the end of the day won a prize! It was a great way to get everyone out walking around and saying hi to new faces! At our Board of Education meeting last week, we recognized long-time coach Michael Janish for his 44 years of service to the athletic department. A few of his accomplishments include: Over 500 wins and over 50 seasons of baseball. In 2023 he earned NFHS Section 1 Baseball Coach of the Year and NYS Baseball Coach of the Year. At Silver Creek as a Baseball coach, he earned 8 league titles, 4 Sectional titles, and twice won the Far West regional. As a Cross Country coach, Mr. Janisch secured 19 league championships between boys and girls and 14 Sectional Championships between boys and girls.

Athletic Director Sean Helmer stated “Mike has always went about things the right way. He has always been a student of the game and coached with passion and showed respect for his opponent. Mike held his athletes and himself to a higher standard. His accomplishments are great, but he is an even greater person. Thanks, Mike, for all your years of service and dedication to the athletes of Silver Creek.” Way to go, Coach Janisch!! #SCCARES #BKP #everyday

Carter Pierce and Joe Edwards were selected to participate at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at Brockport State College on October 17, 2025. The athletes competed in track and field events for gold, silver, and bronze medals. They had the opportunity to participate in running events, archery, long jump, discus, shot put, club throw, distance kick, obstacle course, and precision throw.
This year, Carter was chosen to carry the Games Torch that is used to open the Games. Carter has been participating in the Games for 6 years. He earned 6 gold medals for his excellent performances in the 100 meter run, archery, club throw, discus, shot put, and soft shot.
This was Joe’s first year in participating at the Games. Joe also had excellent performances, earning 5 gold medals and a silver medal in his division. Joe received gold medals in club throw, distance kick, precision throw, soft discus, and soft shot. Joe received a silver medal in the 60 meter run.
The medals were awarded today during their gym class as staff and classmates cheered them on. Congratulations to Carter and Joe! #BKP #SCCARES#everyday
