Our own high schooler, Lucian, is the winner of the 200 Word October Writing Contest. Lucian wrote an amazing story about a haunted bounty hunter, but what stood out the most for Mrs. Michalak, who judged all entries, is the unique voice and strong character development in Lucian's short story. Our own Middle Schooler Annabeth won the 200 word, October scary writing contest, held by Mrs. Michalak in the MS/HS library. She wrote a compelling story about a group of friends that sleep next to a forbidden forest, when one of them enters the forest alone! It was chilling, and very cleverly written, especially when she created a 2nd language to speak to the spirits of the forbidden forest. Way to go, Annabeth! #BKP #SCCARES #everyday

Eighth-grade students completed their final project for FACS, which culminated with their entrepreneurial unit. The students made tasty creations to see who could make the most "profit" from other students with vouchers. The activity started with an order form to see what each batch would cost and a break-even sheet. Then they had to calculate potential profit, create advertising flyers, and finally, fill out a tally sheet of the items "sold." Students made four different kinds of cookies, including chocolate chip, smore, monster cookies and snickerdoodles.

Last week, Silver Creek students joined their peers from Niagara Wheatfield, Niagara Falls, Akron, Buffalo Public, Lake Shore, Gowanda, and Salamanca at the Western New York Indigenous Education Advocacy Network's Honoring Our Roots: Celebrating Culture and Strengthening Communities Summit. Students were able to take part in a college fair,
language lessons, beading and clay jewelry classes, outdoor and indoor cooking, basket making, yoga and traditional games. At lunch, the students heard an inspiring message from Dr. Tonemah.

Looking for some fun, upbeat workouts? We have you covered! Mrs. Decker has coordinated with local community members and organizations to bring you a series of YAC/Unified Wellness Workouts! These are FREE family-friendly events for people of all ages and skill levels! Our first event is coming up on Thursday!! No need to register, just show up. Yoga mat and water bottle are helpful but not required!

**COURTESY POST** The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation is excited to share that Space Camp is back in session for 2026! They're offering a scholarship opportunity for students (and even interested adults) to attend Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.
Eligibility:
* Students in grades 4–12 (or adults with a strong interest in space)
* “B” or better average in math and science
* A demonstrated interest in space travel, aeronautics, or science
Application deadline: December 5th. This early deadline allows time for selected recipients and their families to plan travel arrangements for camp.

Respect is one of the core values instilled in our students. Last week, the Unified Basketball team took to the elementary gym to provide a unique lesson in respect at the first character education assembly of the school year.
Elementary Assistant Principal Joshua Case, a former Unified Basketball coach in Dunkirk, worked together with the Unified Basketball coach Jen Johnson and Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) Advisor Janet Decker, to hold an exhibition Unified Basketball game for the entire elementary school. The elementary students enjoyed learning about respect through this unique and exciting experience. Respect was demonstrated both on and off the court and allowed the students and staff to see the Unified team do what they do best - respect each other as athletes. In the end everyone had fun and learned a valuable lesson.

Last week, we welcomed community members for our annual Senior Citizen Luncheon! The Silver Creek Seniors joined us for a Thanksgiving feast catered by Dolly Beebe. Special placemats were created by elementary art students in Mrs. Anderson's class. They were able to enjoy musical performances by fifth-grade baritone soloist Olivia Hammer and the high school band ahead of their concert.
