The Native American Education Program took a field trip to the Buffalo History Museum this month. Students got a full tour and then met with Evin Schwartz from Beluga. Students were then grouped randomly to discuss what they learned, why it matters, and how that can be turned into a project. Students had brilliant ideas such as more multimedia use, student created exhibits, living history exhibits featuring living people, modern Indigenous history, and so much more. The groups will reconvene in the Spring after some work is done to determine next steps with the Museum. #BKP #SCCARES #everyday

On this #SeniorSunday, let’s give a big #BKP shoutout to the students in Mrs. Kardashian’s Economics class who volunteered their time at Santa’s Secret Shop! Students assisted at the incredible event sponsored by the PTSA all three days during their class period. The students helped younger shoppers find the perfect gifts for their family members, put a lot of smiles on the students faces as well as their own, and took in their own economics lessons on our current study of supply and demand, consumer choice and availability of items. We are grateful to have gotten to volunteer! #BKP #SCCARES #everyday

Cash LeRoy and Johnathan Seneca from Miss Tahamont's Seneca 4 class, took part in a meaningful hands-on project: making their own ribbon shirts. Throughout the process, students learned how to read and follow a sewing pattern, design their shirts using ribbons, and develop practical skills such as sewing cuffs and collars and safely using an iron to finish their work.
The project challenged students to be patient and creative. One student shared that “every shirt is unique,” highlighting how personal design choices and careful craftsmanship made each piece special. Another student reflected that putting on the sleeves was difficult, but working through that challenge helped build confidence and problem-solving skills.
By the end of the project, students not only created beautiful ribbon shirts but also gained a deeper appreciation for the time, care, and cultural significance involved in making regalia. This experience blended language, culture, and life skills—strengthening both learning and connection to tradition.

Students in Ms. Tahamont's Seneca 3, 4, and 5 recently spent a meaningful day connecting with elders at the Seneca Nation Area Office of the Aging. In preparation for the visit, Ms. Tahamont taught her students how to bead a Christmas ornament by hand —each one carefully made and gifted to the elders as a sign of respect, gratitude, and appreciation.
The morning was spent interviewing local elders, listening to their experiences growing up, their fondest memories, and their hopes for what they would like to see taught to future generations. These conversations gave students the opportunity to practice listening, build relationships, and learn directly from community knowledge holders.
After the interviews, students and elders enjoyed time together playing games such as pool, shuffleboard, card games, and a student favorite—bingo. Laughter, stories, and shared moments filled the space, reminding everyone of the importance of community and intergenerational connection.

Knights Against Cancer’s tradition of volunteering at the Courage of Carly and Roswell Alliance Holiday Party for pediatric cancer patients and their families was once again the highlight of the season for 27 of our students. “This event gives our students so much holiday joy, perspective and meaning, and the students truly work to help make the patients and their families have the best possible experience.” The students help in various aspects, including setting up bounce houses, creating crafts, decorating cookies, facilitating a dance party, leading scavenger hunts, and playing games. “Knowing the work that Roswell does to make this the highlight of the year and being lucky enough to be a part of something that means so much has always given our students a feeling of true hope. We have been volunteering for almost a decade as a club and are so grateful to get to continue doing this work and passing the tradition down,” said Mrs. Kardashian, KAC Advisor, “it changes our students' lives and the paths they choose going forward.”
