Good afternoon Silver Creek Families, I invite our Middle School families to a Special Night Out on April 27! We are planning a fun evening for students grades 5-8 and their families. We will be highlighting projects in the Tech, FACS and Art classes, making crafts, playing dodgeball, and providing music and refreshments. Childcare will be available for grades K-4 as needed.

Mrs. Schuster and Mrs. Estee's third grade ELA class wrote color poems and sent in their work to be published. They received their copies and can't wait to share them with friends and family!

Once again, the event will be hosted by David Hymowitz of #SameHere and are part of the district’s mission to educate and support the whole child. The topic will be Building Resiliency in Your Children. Helping your children become resilient is one of the most effective protective factors they need to negotiate life on life’s terms. There are four main ingredients to building resiliency: hope, connections, purpose, and adapting. We will explore how to create and foster these areas in their lives so they can successfully face life’s challenges. Links for the virtual workshops are accessible at www.silvercreekschools.org. The Unified Esports Team of Silver Creek High School is going to the championships! 🎉 🎮 😃 Advisor Mr. Josh Sadler says the Silver Creek Mario Kart Team defeated the Carver Crusaders (Carver, Massachusetts) in the semifinals in a best of 3 series 2-1. Happy Earth Day! Silver Creek Central School District celebrated Friday, April 21, 2023, and so many Black Knights sported their green, blue and all the bright flowers. 🌏💚💙💐 Some students participated in a special Earth Day challenge with Earth Club to win prizes. The students pictured won a spot on the Earth Club field trip to the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Alex Karnes, grade 10, recently received the Youth Leadership recognition Award from Senator George Borrello and Stephanie VanCheri, grade 11, was awarded the Clarkson University High School Achievement Award for her excellence in leadership and academics! #BKP

SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT: Applications for the FAMILY HEALTH MEDICAL SERVICES HEALTH SCIENCE SHOLARSHIP, intended for graduating seniors enrolling full-time to pursue a degree in public health, health science, nursing or another health-related field, are due May 1, 2023. The FHMS Health Science Award was created for high school students graduating from High School in Chautauqua County. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to 3 qualifying students who are enrolling full-time to receive a degree in public health, health science, nursing, or another health-related field. Access to quality healthcare is essential for good health, but like most rural areas, residents often experience barriers such as transportation, health insurance coverage or the limited availability of healthcare providers and specialists in rural communities. We hope by supporting our local students in their college level studies, that they will return to Chautauqua County to practice in their chosen medical field. WHO CAN APPLY: • Open to graduating High School seniors in Chautauqua County. • Applicants must be enrolled full-time to an accredited college to receive a degree in public health, health science, nursing, or another health-related field. • Scholarships will be awarded directly to the winners. • Winners will be announced on fhmsmed.com and social media. Silver Creek High School senior Brenna Newton competed in the annual Jamestown Community College "College Connections" speech contest Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in Jamestown. 🗣️ Brenna, a member of the Class of 2023, was one of many competitors from area schools to talk the topic "How is your generation [Gen Z] changing the world?" 🎙️🤔 Fellow classmates from her public speaking class, teachers Mrs. Carolyn Laurenzi and Mr. DiGennaro all attended to support Brenna. Mrs. Laurenzi couldn't be more proud of Brenna for taking on this challenge! 🥹 🙌🖤💛

Mr. Boedo worked in the lab as a phlebotomist and longed to return to school to pursue a degree in nursing. He loved his job and loved helping people. This award is intended to provide a student matching the below criteria with an opportunity to pursue a dream that Mr. Boedo was unable to achieve. Please write an essay containing no more than two pages, double spaced describing how you demonstrate the criteria: - You are enrolled in a college majoring in a healthcare-related field. You demonstrate care and compassion for others in your everyday life (you are a people person.) - You have maintained at least a 75% GPA throughout your high school career. The Beatrice N. Price and Leon D. Price memorial scholarships are intended for graduating seniors in the top third of their class who are majoring in education or a related field.
