FRIENDLY REMINDER: Silver Creek Central School District’s Family Outreach-School Connectedness team is building relationships through meaningful conversations via its #SameHere wellness initiative.
The district's second offering in the four-part series of inclusive, virtual workshops hosted by David Hymowitz of #SameHere continues Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 7 p.m. with the topic of “Why Do Students Self Medicate?”
Community members are welcome to join the virtual sessions via this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83130573354.
Each workshop runs approximately 45 minutes.
· March 29, 2023: Why Do Students Self-Medicate? People utilize a host of mechanisms to cope with stress and difficult life situations. One coping tool is substances and it is believed the choice of substance may be linked to one’s primary emotional state. This workshop explores how this may be connecting and lead to self-medicating. It will also discuss ways to prevent and support students that may be heading toward or actually self-medicating.

Good Thursday morning Families,
Today is March 23, 2023.
I want to provide a second update to my first call this morning.
As stated prior, very late last evening we received a report from a high school student that attends school at an offsite location, not the campus here in Silver Creek. The student reported an “alleged threat” to “a school” that the student had received very late last evening from an unknown caller. NO specific school or student or individual was named in the alleged threat. Mr. Yelich, Deputy Johnson, and I worked with law enforcement all evening and this morning - as the threat was deemed non credible by law enforcement a decision was made to open school and operate as normal.
Very early this morning we also communicated with the administrators and SRO from the offsite school program which the student who received the alleged threat attends.
To err on the side of caution, as we have done in the past, we did arrange for extra Sheriff deputies to be present for student arrival, dismissal and throughout the school day to provide enhanced safety and reassurance.
If there any further updates throughout the day, I will send another Broadcast.

Several Silver Creek students attended the "Seventh Generation Operation" at The Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo on March 21st. This unique presentation provided Indigenous students from Silver Creek, Lake Shore, and Gowanda a hands-on experience in the medical, nursing, and dental fields. Students took part in a "Stop the Bleed" training, took vitals, practiced sutures on simulated skin samples, and participated in dental molding.

The cast of Silver Creek High School's production of Disney's “The Little Mermaid” is thankful to everyone who came out to support them at the Land & Sea Dinner hosted at Sunset Bay Restaurant on Monday, March 20, 2023. 🙏 🧜♀️🍴
The students learned how the restaurant runs as they served, prepared, and cleaned up from the meal fundraiser. About 70 tickets were sold between both seatings and take-out orders. 👨🍳 🧼 💵
Guests enjoyed a small snippet of music from the show. At the 5 p.m. seating, students sang "Under the Sea" while at the 7 p.m. seating, they sang "Kiss the Girl." Both songs — and many more — can be heard at performances slated April 13-15 at 7 p.m. and April 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. 🌊😚🎶🎤

The cast is especially thankful to Mr. Michael Gristanti, the employees of Sunset Bay Restaurant, and the Performing Arts Boosters for supporting them, believing in them, and for making this delicious event take place! ☺️ 🙌 🫶
