Silver Creek hosted the first offsite symposium for the Cohen Holocaust & Social Justice Education program Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
The symposium welcomed students from five other schools (including Brockton, Pine Valley, Dunkirk, Jamestown and Chautauqua Lake) whose teachers are the coordinators of the program. SCCS welcomed 100 students and faculty to take part in a meeting leading up to our Washington, DC, trip a week later, which allowed students to have a unique experience in meeting the other travelers through small and large group activities including trivia and establishing timelines and understanding of various diaries throughout history. The symposium also brought a unique experience for the students through hearing the testimony of a 2nd generation survivor, Mrs. Lily Bink, who spoke of her parents' will to survive, all that was lost and some hope for the future as she has come into contact with some distant family members that have only been found the past few years. “This symposium was truly an extraordinary experience and I am so proud that we were asked to host it as this trip has come to mean so much more for all of us who are a part of it.”

We are posting again to share an important update regarding the regional and statewide hoax about school shootings that occurred this morning. These calls were made to a wide variety of school districts and are totally unfounded and School District officials and law enforcement officers are all aware of the "swatting" (hoax or prank calls) designed to elicit widespread panic/concern. Presently, there is a regional response from school leaders to reassure our communities that there is no credibility to these phone calls or internet statements.
Please know, we will always take these situations, concerns, and threats seriously. We are 100 percent committed to student/school safety and not becoming complacent with our reactions to each and every threat.
At this point, Buffalo area TV media is also reinforcing the message that these are false claims. Thank you for your understanding.

Approximately 40 minutes ago a 911 call came into Mayville dispatch that there was an active shooter in Silver Creek and Jamestown. Evidently, these types of "prank calls" are occurring in all four counties and across the state. Yesterday there were similar "prank" calls placed in Pennsylvania. After learning about the call, our SRO, along with other law enforcement and administration cleared the buildings and grounds. We secured all entrances and went into a shelter in place. Once law enforcement confirmed that there was no credible threat, we lifted the shelter in place and resumed normal activity.

**COURTESY POST** Christ Chapel Wesleyan Church Easter Eggstravaganza- April 8th

Students in History & Culture Club and the Genocide and Human Rights class visited the Robert H Jackson Center on February 10th. The Center was established to promote the legacy of Robert H. Jackson, the Chief US Prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials after WWII, a former US Supreme Court Justice, Attorney General and Solicitor General. The center offers a wide variety of programming and the students were able to tour and see first hand accounts, rare pieces from the time period and historical exhibits not seen elsewhere. "We are so lucky to have such an incredible piece of history so close to our district and for our students to be able to experience rare, firsthand accounts of world history."

Silver Creek CSD is pleased to announce we are working with the Liberty Partnership Program through SUNY Fredonia to offer tutoring, homework help, and more! Middle and High school students who are interested in these services may contact Dr. Haq by email at rhaq@silvercreekschools.org, or stop down and meet him in room 153 ( HS tech wing).

Good afternoon Silver Creek Families,
We invite you to attend the next virtual workshop on March 29, 2023. Once again, the event will be hosted by David Hymowitz of #SameHere and is part of the district’s mission to educate and support the whole child.
The topic will be Why Do Students Self-Medicate? People utilize a host of mechanisms to cope with stress and difficult life situations. One coping tool is substances and it is believed the choice of substance may be linked to one’s primary emotional state. This workshop explores how this may be connecting and lead to self-medicating. It will also discuss ways to prevent and support students that may be heading toward or actually self-medicating.
Community members are welcome to join one or all four virtual sessions. Links for the virtual workshops are accessible at www.silvercreekschools.org. Each workshop begins at 7:00 p.m. and runs approximately 45 minutes.
Contact the district social workers with any questions. Learn more at samehereglobal.org.
I also invite our elementary families to join us on March 30th from 4:30 to 6 pm in the Elementary School for March Madness Math & Literacy Night! We will have Math and Literacy themed activities and games, story time, crafts, basketball drills, a photobooth, refreshments, and more!
Finally, I would like to inform the community that starting April 3, the track will be closed for construction as we begin work on the Capital Project. We anticipate it will reopen for use by September.
