Dear Silver Creek Community:

I want to share with all of you that this will be my last school year as Superintendent of Schools here at Silver Creek as I will be retiring.  My last day of work is expected to be on or about June 30, 2023.    Our Board of Education is committed to a timely, thorough and comprehensive search so that a new Superintendent can begin on July 1, 2023 and be in place over the upcoming summer in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year.

I want to thank all of you for your incredibly hard work and support the past seven years (I start my eighth year as your Superintendent on February 1, 2023).  This community, students, Board of Education members, leadership team, faculty and employees are “the best I’ve ever worked with”.  I am proud of what we have accomplished together, providing an excellent education, extracurricular activities, arts, music, and sports programs for our student body, assisting them to grow into awesome young men and women.  In my work throughout our region, I consistently hear excellent things about Silver Creek Schools and this community. We have been though a great deal together over the past seven years, most notably the COVID pandemic experience.  Your support and trust in our school during Covid allowed us to set and example for our neighboring schools to follow.  I am most proud that we have all learned and grown together establishing a growth mind set of “continual improvement” for the benefit of  our student body.   Please know, I will finish this school year as though I am returning for the 2023-2024 school year so that everything will be “in place and set” for the next Superintendent.

I am proud to be a lifelong educator of 32 and a half years in Chautauqua County as a teacher, coach, principal, and school superintendent.  The relationships that I have formed with all of you and your children will be what I miss most!

On a personal note, I’m looking forward to freedom and time with my family. I want to become more active in my church, volunteer, travel with my wife and enjoy my grandchildren.  There are new things on the horizon, and it is time to begin the next chapter…………….…..please know, I will always be a Black Knight!

The Board of Education has secured the services of Dr. David O’Rourke, Erie 2 BOCES Superintendent, to conduct the search for my replacement.  Please check the District website, under the District tab for the section titled “Superintendent Search” for more information next week. This tab will be updated during the next five months throughout the search and hiring process. Lastly, next week the Board of Education will place a letter containing a link to a brief survey where you can provide input and feedback for what you’d like to see in a new superintendent under the “Superintendent Search” tab.  These surveys will be due by February 10.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (716) 934-2603 ext. 1900.

Most sincerely,

Todd A. Crandall
Superintendent of Schools
