students read

The home of the Black Knights is used to seeing touchdowns and field goals, but it was a first for group story times on the football field. Reading Under the Lights was a successful kick-off for the Silver Creek Family Outreach-School Connectedness (FOSC) team’s events for the 23-24 school year!

Around 200 children, teachers, staff, administrators, and volunteers took to the football field to take part in this fun, family-friendly event.

The night began by walking the newly resurfaced track, throwing around a football, and enjoying some tailgate treats provided by the Silver Creek Football Boosters. Mr. Reynolds, who dressed as a football player, was the emcee for the night and announced the time to grab a blanket and a good book.

The Silver Creek school library provided books for families to borrow and older student and teacher volunteers were on hand to read to the gathered groups.

“There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and connectedness,” District Administrator Delia Bonenberger said.

The FOSC Team extends a thank you to all those who helped make this event a success.

“And thanks goes to the Silver Creek-Forestville Black Knights Football Modified and Varsity players who were there to help. It was great to see the older students interacting with younger students and showing them that they still enjoy reading. Bringing literacy and athletics together for a night allowed us to showcase two of the great things that happen in our district!” Kristin McChesney, FOSC Committee member, said.

The FOSC Team’s mission is to continue to provide opportunities for family engagement throughout the school year. FOCS is planning more events that will be announced later in the school year.
