Miss Alesha Helman

My name is Alesha Helman and I am the Health/Physical Education Department Chair. I currently teach PE in the Elementary School. I am also the Pool Director for the district.
I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1998 with a BS in Health and Physical Education. I completed my Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Fredonia in 2004. This is my 18th year in the Silver Creek CSD School District. For most of my time here I taught in the middle/high school. This is my 2nd year full time with the elementary.

Philosophy

The main objective of my Physical Education class is to provide students with the skills necessary to live healthy, active lifestyles. Regular participation in physical activity has been proven to increase test performance, raise self-esteem, reduce the risk of life threatening diseases and have a positive impact on the social and emotional well-being of an individual.

My goal is to create an array of enjoyable, challenging, and meaningful activities that will provide the building blocks necessary to prepare them for Middle School Physical Education and beyond. As a professional educator, I will present these activities in a positive and professional manner, as to maximize the self-esteem and the self-confidence of my students. As a result of physical education, my students will learn that physical fitness is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not only now, but for the rest of their lives.

I will treat my students with the utmost respect and courtesy. As a result, I expect to be treated in the same manner. While I hold high expectations for my students, I do not expect each child to be the best, but I do expect them do their best.
