Dear Silver Creek Community,
As we reach the midpoint of the school year, I find myself more grateful than ever to be leading in this district. I am constantly in awe of the employees who put their entire being into their work, the learning I see happening in classrooms, the laughter I hear in the hallway, the brainstorm sessions I get to be a part of, the board members who devote time, the families who help us improve, and the students who give us a reason to be here #everyday. I really am so fortunate to be part of the Black Knight story, and I want to take time to reflect and share on the many good things that have recently happened and are constantly happening around us.
The first is this: we are part of an amazing community. Time and again, you show that our district is not just a collection of schools, but a network of people who care deeply for one another.
This spirit was especially evident during our recent holiday initiatives. Thanks to the generosity of our families, organizations, and local partners, we were able to provide “Everything but the Turkey” baskets to many households. We also saw beautifully decorated Christmas trees donated and shared, bringing warmth and joy to families. Your kindness continues to make a tangible difference, and I am sincerely grateful.
Another positive trend—one that has a direct impact on student success—is our continued improvement in school attendance. Thank you to our families for supporting this effort. When parents ensure students arrive on time, stay engaged, and prioritize being present, students thrive. Your partnership has been essential in strengthening this initiative, and we see the results #everyday in classrooms across the district.
We have also seen tremendous participation in sports, extracurricular activities, KnightU sessions, and FOSC events. These programs enrich student life, build leadership, spark curiosity, and strengthen friendships. Whether cheering from the stands, performing on stage, engaging in academic enrichment, or showing up at community events, our students continue to make us proud through their enthusiasm and commitment.
And finally, the most important and powerful of the good things happening around us: our students. They are the reason we show up #everyday, they are the pulse of our community and the voice of our future. We have a lot to be proud of with each and every one of our students. When you read this – take a pause and share something a student in the community has done to make you proud lately.
As we move into the next half of the year, let’s continue celebrating the good around us—and creating more of it through our shared efforts.
Please share — what is something good that has happened to you recently?
Stay warm throughout the rest of the winter!
Sincerely,
Dr. Katie Ralston
