Safety Plan

  • In an effort to help the public understand the purpose of the different levels of emergency drills, the Silver Creek Central School District is releasing an explanatory document.

The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to the District. We want parents to rest assured their children are protected to the best of our abilities.

Depending on the situation, four different drills may be enacted:

    • Lockout – A lockout may be issued in the event an external threat or other incident could result in harm to persons inside the school. All exterior doors will be locked and secured. All outside activities will cease and any students outdoors will immediately return inside the school. Normal activities will continue in the school, and only authorized personnel will be admitted to the building.
    • Shelter In Place – Sheltering provides refuge for students, staff and the public within the school during an emergency. Hallways are cleared, students remain in classrooms, instruction continues and there are no class changes.
    • Lockdown – Issued in situations involving dangerous intruders or other incidents that may result in harm to persons inside the school. All students, staff and visitors will be directed to classrooms and all doors and windows will be locked. No one is permitted outside classrooms until designated personnel ensure that the building is safe.
    • Evacuation – A refuge outside the school building is provided during an emergency. Evacuation destinations are located in areas that will maximize inhabitants’ safety.
  • Integrated Pest Management 48-hour Prior Notification

The Silver Creek Central School District has adopted Integrated Pest Management as an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest control. IPM utilizes common sense practices to control pests by taking advantage of various pest management options including the judicious use of pesticides.

All pesticide control measures used at the SCCSD do not require 48-hour prior notification under the New York State Consolidated Laws-Educational Law Pesticide Notification-Article 9: section 409-h2 (e).

A new law has been enacted that prohibits the use of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulated pesticide products on all lawn areas of the school. However, the school can use EPA exempt or minimal risk pesticides, which are not registered by EPA because they have been found to pose little or no risk. These products commonly referred to as biopesticides contain natural products such as clove oil or soybean oil.
Should there be an unforeseen school board approved circumstance that requires an EPA-approved pesticide application, individuals who wish to be informed may choose to do so. If you do elect to be informed, please submit your name and mailing address to the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds.

The Silver Creek Central School District pesticide representative is  Director of Facilities Scott Pound. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact Mr. Pound at 934-2603, ext. 4262.

    Water Test Results

  • Effective September 1, 2024, the District began using IncidentIQ, an electronic building use request system.
We no longer use paper forms.

    A few highlights:

Community groups (such as Boy/Girl Scouts, booster clubs) must set up an account and submit insurance forms as required by District policy.

Insurance. Community and Outside Organizations must carry Commercial General Liability insurance with a limit of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence. This insurance coverage shall be written or endorsed to apply to the following as additional insured on a primary and noncontributory basis: “Silver Creek Central School District and its employees, authorized volunteers and committee members, student teachers, auxiliary instructors, and members of the Board of Education.” Evidence of this coverage is required via a Certificate of Insurance with Silver Creek Central School District as the certificate holder, in conjunction with applicable copies of endorsements or policy forms. The District reserves the right to modify the requirements herein, including limits and coverages, based on circumstances involved, including but not limited to the nature of the risk involved, prior experience, insurer, or coverage.
